Veterans Park

Veterans Park

Veterans Park, Plumstead Township, Pennsylvania

“A Veteran – Whether active duty, retired, National Guard, or Reserve – is someone who, at one point in his or her life, wrote a blank check made payable to ‘The United States of America’ for an amount of ‘up to and including their life.” – Anonymous

The Veterans Park in Plumstead Township was designed and installed in a collaborative effort between Township Veterans, Delaware Valley University landscape architecture students and our firm. The ½ acre parcel in the heart of the community was transformed from a simple turf grass triangle to an oasis of pride and respect. Inspired by the yellow ribbon and utilizing native materials, the great lawn is surrounded by lush plantings, a raised lawn and boulder platform and alcoves that honor the five main branches of our military.

The two year long process culminated in the park dedication on Veterans Day Observance, November 9, 2014. The event was attended by 100s of people from our youngest children to veterans of World War II.

Kent Place Residence

Kent Place Residence

Kent Place Residence, Summit, New Jersey

The transformation of this two-acre property in an historic neighborhood brought together old and new, rustic and contemporary, passive and active, native and exotic, and, ultimately, house and home. This young family returned to their hometown after life in the Big Apple. They sought a retreat to escape the hectic day to day while building a lifetime of memories. The result was a blending of the outdoors and indoors with native stone and plant materials that created a series of outdoor rooms. The rooms included a rooftop kitchen terrace, a family terrace with fireplace, a party terrace, a great lawn for play, a refurbished tennis court and a new pool area complete with a pool house and an indoor basketball court.

Haiti Rooftop Gardens

Haiti Rooftop Gardens

Haiti Rooftop Food and Water Harvesting Gardens, Delmas, Haiti

Haiti is a country devastated by poverty and the lack of natural resources. Shortages of food, shelter and drinking water plague the resilient people of the small Caribbean country. Little of the billions of dollars that poured into the country following the 2010 earthquake actually helped where it was needed, the streets. Since 2012, we have partnered with a medical mission group in Doylestown Pennsylvania and a Catholic mission in Port-au-Prince Haiti. Our mission is to serve, not supply. We brought our skills and knowledge to design and help build rooftop gardens for growing food and harvesting rain water. With the help of locals, we have installed two rooftop gardens and conducted numerous education sessions with neighboring community members to help them extend these gardens to other homes. The ultimate goal, re-green all of urban Haiti one rooftop at a time.

Cedar Lane Farm Mixed-Use Village

Cedar Lane Farm Mixed-Use Village

Cedar Lane Farm Mixed-Use Village, Tewksbury Township, New Jersey

A thousand acres in the heart of Hunterdon County New Jersey and a family with desires to leave a legacy resulted in a mixed-use land use master plan. The visioning and development of the plan embraces the historic and cultural vernacular of a community, the values and desires of a family, and the needs of a rich ecological and agricultural landscape. We developed strategies for diversity in housing, commercial and community spaces that offer unique lifestyle opportunities while sustaining values in ecology, culture and economics.

reBalancing the Bronx

reBalancing the Bronx

reBalancing the Bronx, Bronx, New York

It’s the Bronx…past…present…future. Our entry sought to close the loops of history, habitat, food and energy by reintroducing the Borough to its history but with the regenerative strategies to meet the needs and values of today and tomorrow. The entry reintroduced the forest habitats of days gone on the streets, in the parks and parking lots, on the rooftops and against building walls. Healthy food, clean water, fresh air, passive energy and social connectivity were at the heart of our solutions to the international design competition Intersections: The Grand Concourse beyond 100. We received honorable mention and were exhibited at Columbia University.
